Nobody can say with certainty when the first Siamese cat was nurtured to date. For certain it is known only that it was happened many centuries ago. This wonderful pet has have been charming people by its inimitable elegance, beauty and grace for centuries. After the World War II in 50th years British selectionists began to work at oriental breed of cat. Special feature of this breed is variety of colours. Oriental breed refers to east (oriental) group of cats. A head is medium size. It forms ideal triangle. Ears are large. Oriental cats have wide set of ears. Eyes are amygdaline and skewed. Body is medium, oblong, elegant, muscular. Tail is very long, thin and pointed. Hair is shot, thin, shining, close-fitting, without undercoat. Oriental cat needs much attention to itself and seeks contact with people. The cat is sociable, affectionate, energetic, active and cleaver. It gets on with children and other pets very good. It isnt hard to look after these cats. One of the legends tells us that the first Siamese cat was born during the Flood when the male of a monkey fall in love with lioness and a fruit of this strange love became a cat with habits of a monkey and bravery of a lion.

There is one legend that explains the unique look of the Siamese cats. When all mens of Siam left their homes to defend its motherland, nobody could protect golden goblet of Buddha. There were only Tien and Chula, a pair of Siamese cats in the temple. Setting out to find a priest, Tien left its friend and charged her with protecting the treasure. Time passed, long hours passed into days and weeks and Chula kept its eyes on the sacramental goblet, twining around it by its tail for more reliability. The cat carried out its task so responsibility that it didnt notice that it was time to bring into the world its brood. Chula giving birth to the kittens didnt turn aside from the goblet for a second. The kittens were like it. Its has almond shaped eyes and broken tail.

Anyway it is evident that the motherland of this breed is east country Siam. People of this kingdom revered these cats and entrusted the cats with a mission of honour of the keepers of the temples. The owners of the Siamese cats were very well-to-do and noble men. It was considered that after the owners death the pet accompanied his soul into the abode of the spirits. After the funeral rite the cat moved from the house to the temple and lived there like a fighting cock until its death. Dedication cats ate from the golden dishes and slept on the pillows from the most luxurious clothes. People aspired to make the life of the sacred animals happy and tried to propitiate the cats with every possible means because they were sure that the cats could intercede for the souls of the dead person.

Till the end of the 19th century this breed was unknown. There is no wonder in it because the cats of this breed used special status in the palace and take the cats out the country was categorically out. But in the 70th years of the 19th century Owen Gud, a representative of the British embassy in the Bangkok, imported to Europe the first pair of the Siamese cats. The pets was given to British embassy by the king of the Siam and this act was able to rate as a sing of the grate favour. Since this moment the triumphal procession of the Siamese cats begins in Europe. British phelinologists were interesting in its unusual appearance at once. English queen Victory was a passionate admirer of this breed. Approximately in the same time the first Siamese cats appeared in Russia. Its applied to the traditional variety. The animals of breed numbers not enough. And Russian breeders had to resort to the inbreeding. Ordinary Siamese cats were coupled with pedigreeless animals. All this led to the intensified progress of the genetic defects: dock-tailed and squint. In addition these animals were notable for its aggressive behaviour (probably this caused delusions about the spiteful character of Siamese cats), And though the persistent work of the domestic breeders brought its results. With the lapse of time hereditary defects were eliminated and the appearance and character became much better.
